Virginia Beach is the newest landing site for the next generation of ultra-high-speed transoceanic telecommunications cables. Two projects have been announced to date: Microsoft and Facebook have begun work laying the MAREA cable that will connect Virginia Beach to Bilbao, Spain. Once it goes live, MAREA will increase the available bandwidth crossing the Atlantic by 50%, by itself. The second project, BRUSA, will connect Virginia Beach with Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. These new connections make Virginia Beach the most advanced digital port city on the East Coast and will make possible the transfer of data at speeds and quality never before realized. The city is ready to welcome any business that relies on secure, fast, global big data connections.
